Insight: The Business of Words

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. …Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.” – Rabbi Yehuda Berg This month, following in the literary liturgy of the 2017 Sydney Writers Festival, we focus on the business, the pleasure, the necessity, and the possible redundancy of words. We have assembled a stellar team of wordsmiths to explore the power of words as a business tool, medium for communication, and catalyst for connection:

  • Katrina Strickland: author (Affairs of the Art), celebrated editor of the Australian Financial Review magazine, and newly-appointed editor of Good Weekend, read by 1million Australians each week;
  • Simon Palan: former TV news journalist and anchor (ABC TV News), keynote speaker, media training expert, and successful video marketing entrepreneur (Refine Media);
  • Georgina Safe: one of Australia’s most respected and sought-after writers with a strong background in fashion, lifestyle, design and culture. Her work is regularly featured in leading national and international mastheads.
