On Design: Top 5 in Local Design

We appreciate the true power of great design. No longer the preserve of the aesthetically sensitive clique, good design – from cafes and coffee cups, to websites and accompanying applications, homes and offices – has the ability to shape and drive business. Here is our guide to some outstanding local design – a top five working across architecture, graphic, product, and furniture design.

Design by Toko – Graphic and Concept  design solutions in the varied domain of commerce and culture. From concept and design to realisation, the studio offers a full creative service within branding, digital, spatial and print design. Since it’s inception in 2001, Design by Toko has worked on a wide range of projects in equally as many industries. Collaborating with clients who seek distinctive and innovative design solutions through creative lateral thinking, quality design and execution. The Office Space worked with Toko in 2014/2015 on a rebrand to commemorate our 10 years in business and to signify new office locations.

Woods Bagot – Architecture Woods Bagot is a global design and consulting firm, with a team of over 1000 people working across studios in Australia, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America. Specialising in five key sectors – Aviation and Transport; Education, Science and Health; Lifestyle; Sport; and Workplace – Woods Bagot’s diverse portfolio spans more than 140 years, a legacy of design excellence. Woods Bagot Sydney studio is responsible for designing the spectacular interiors of Paramount by The Office Space.

A.B. Projects – Furniture  A.B.Projects unites the creative expression of an architect and the craftsmanship of a builder to create a partnership committed to returning the legacy of handcrafted design and passion to furniture. Led by award wining local architect Domenic Alvaro and director of The Office Space Boris Tosic, A.B. Projects’ stunning modular grid shelving pieces feature at Reservoir by The Office Space.

Alison Jackson – Product  Alison Jackson’s practice is split equally between designing and hand making jewellery and tableware pieces.Combining traditional silversmithing techniques with a contemporary aesthetic, Jackson’s individually hand raises each piece of hollowware from flat sheet through to the finished form. This age old process is intensely time consuming often taking days to complete as the metal is hammered, shaped and worked.

Henry Wilson – Product, Furniture, Interiors  “For us, beauty is a resolved outcome. The execution of the design should tell the story of its process and function.” As a multi-disciplinary practice, Studio Henry Wilson takes on human-centred design projects both large and small across the world. In 2010, Wilson set up a research and conceptual design studio, producing products, furniture and interiors that are considered and durable, with a focus on honest resolutions and longevity. *Image – render of the bar at Paramount by The Office Space, created by Woods Bagot.
