The Business of Making

Insight by The Office Space returns in September with a set of intriguing conversations on creativity and the business of making. Insight by The Office Space is a monthly panel series where The Office Space brings together a selection of interesting thinkers and entrepreneurs to share their stories relating to a particular topic. Our Insight series to date has explored Creative Women in Business as well as the spectrum of design in Design Business. Most recently we discussed the idea of success for Success in Business, with Barrie Barton of Right Angle Studio, CEO of Urban Walkabout Victoria Moxey, and founder of Men in this Town, Giuseppe Santamaria.

For The Business of Making, our speakers will discuss their experience, their craft, and their own personal perspectives on making a career out of creativity.

TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE HERE.

Speakers include:

Henry Wilson Henry Wilson is a designer based in Sydney, Australia. After graduating in Visual Arts (Woodwork) from The Australian National University in Canberra, Henry received the HSP Huygens Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies (Design) at The Design Academy Eindhoven. In 2012, Henry set up a research and conceptual design studio, producing products, furniture and interiors that are considered and durable, with a focus on honest resolutions and longevity. “For us, beauty is a resolved outcome. The execution of the design should tell the story of its process and function.” As a multi-disciplinary practice, Henry Wilson Studio takes on human-centred design projects both large and small across the world. Studio Henry Wilson is based in Sydney, Australia. Its products and furniture are distributed internationally through Matter in New York and Very Good & Proper in London.

Elke Kramer Jewellery and accessory designer, as well as creative-director, Elke Kramer brings a vast reservoir of creativity, adaptability, and technical ability to all of her projects. Elke built her innovative and self-directed business in 2004 as an expression of her unique and multi-faceted creative abilities and interests. Elke Kramer is an Australian industry leader in the fashion jewellery and design world. Through the growth of her cult brand she has created her own individual market. Her followers venerate Elke’s clear distinction as a designer who both looks to the past for inspiration, yet always has a clear vision of the direction for her future designs. She does this by creating her own unique signature aesthetic, which is applied everything she approaches. Having this quality sets her apart from other accessory labels in Australia and across the globe. Rather then follow trends in the market, Elke’s jewellery designs are an exploration of unique and uncommon materials, fabrications and forms. Great attention is paid to every single detail, and the emphasis is always on innovation. Her pieces are spirited, bold and unafraid, yet intricate and elaborate; which is always an excitement to wear and own.

Anya Brock Credited for her sensitive and discerning use of colour, iconic Australian artist Anya Brock is best know for her signature portrait- inspired animals, smouldering-faced girls and considered geometric compositions. Identifying strongly with the abstract expressionists hailing from 1950’s America, Anya sees her work as semi abstracted interpretations of her subjects. Employing organic exaggeration and distortion, the work is recognisably figurative without entering realism.   Please join us for champagne and canapes at the stunning Golden Age Cinema and Bar as we listen to some inspiring thinking on making a business out of creativity.

TICKETS:  $25 (includes drink on arrival and a selection of canapes by the Golden Age Bar).

Tickets are available here.

DATE: Monday 28 September, 5.30 – 7pm
